The Venue

For all you brides to be, there will be this section ‘Weddings’ just for you!

I finally married Kevin on the 30th of December 2015 (after 10 years of us going out). Everything went perfect and we had the most amazing day!

So I am very familiar with all the things to plan and arrange – the exciting and the boring too! So I will share some useful tips with you as we go along – things that I wish someone had shared with me!

Or anything that I found helpful, how I chose ‘The Dress’, any vendors that I would recommend and places that I would suggest visiting!

I will start with the first decision you will have to make when planning your wedding day-

The Venue

This was an easy decision for us because I fell in love with the venue we chose when I used to work in it!

I enquired about the date we were looking for – New Years Eve over 2 years in advance but they were booked. Out of curiosity, I checked another hotel – it was free. Myself and Kevin discussed it and to us the venue was more important than the date, so we excitedly booked the 30th in The Ballyliffin Lodge and Spa Hotel.

The hotel was so helpful from the very start and stayed in touch with us right through the planning process. Anything we asked of them was no problem!

The Ballyliffin Lodge is a 4 Star, family run hotel which overlooks the most beautiful view. It has 40 rooms in total and they offer very reasonable rates! It caters for both smaller weddings of up to 100 guests and larger weddings of up to 500 guests. The decor is stunning- every bride’s dream. We got married in winter and I’ve never seen a hotel decorated so well for the festive season.

Every single detail was perfect, from the welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff and the delicious meal that we were served. The service was first class – prompt, precise and professional.

Before the meal, our guests relaxed with a drink and listened to some music in the pre-function room. It is decorated with beautiful sofas, chairs and mirrors – all recently renovated.

The Ballyliffin Lodge and Spa are also licensed to hold civil ceremonies.

If you are reading this and have not settled on a venue yet, I would seriously recommend them!

The only tips I would have on choosing your venue is:

  • Make sure your hearts are in it – go for a different date if you have to!
  • Meet with the wedding coordinator – discuss what it is you want and see what they can do!
  • Make sure you know how many people you are going to invite – some hotels cannot cater for large weddings.
  • Read reviews – go with a venue that you trust and have heard great reports on!
  • Check out their packages – for example, we got complementary use of a Rolls Royce and one year gym and swimming pool membership!

I will upload posts of wedding planning regularly and if there if anything in particular you would like to see featured, just let me know! Happy Planning! 👰🏻
